Private Eye of 29 May questions the track record of NTS Finance Director Lesley Watt and Director of Commercial Services & Marketing, Henk Berits.
Private Eye reports "(Watts & Berits) were the finance and marketing directors of Scotland's biggest ever dotcom flop, globalfarmers.com. The online farming supplies firm went into receivership in 2001 despite having won £3.6m investment from Bank of Scotland and Caledonian Heritable Investments"
On reading the article in Private Eye, I cannot help wondering what sort of open, fair and transparent recruitment process arrived at the remarkable coincidence of employing these two people!
It is common knowledge within the Trust that both were "brought in" by Shonaig on short term contracts and then appointed. Lesley Watts instigated the implementaion of a new EPOS system for the Trust shops with no business case and no consultation with users. It would be interesting to know how much was spent on this before the "plug was pulled". The shops involved in the "trial" are now operating on manual procedures. Henk Berits gave the contract for the Trust's web site to a company that he part owned. There is more than just competence to question.
